Creativity as a Pathway
Visual art-making, such as drawing, painting, collage, and mixed media, can offer another way to explore experience. Trauma and emotion are not always held in narratives, and creative work can help externalize what is felt, creating distance, containment, and new meaning.
Expressive arts practices expand this process by moving between modalities: visual art, movement, writing, sound and music, storytelling, and imagination. Rather than staying in one form, we allow the creative process itself to guide transitions. This intermodal movement can gently access implicit memory, support integration, and expand emotional capacity.
Art in our work is not about performance or skill. It can be a way to regulate, express, make meaning, and reclaim agency.
